We made it! The summer at the lake went off without a hitch. We were full at the campground every weekend and the time just flew by. We left for Florida in October, and settled in the Pensacola area. We absolutely LOVED our beach time. We made some side trips to the Springs area in Central Florida and fell in love with them. We are already planning next winter. I don't know if we can ever go back to living in Iowa for the winter again.
We will begin our trek north again in April, and until then, we will continue going to the beach everyday. We really just can't get enough of it.
The kids have done so well with online schooling - there were a few hiccups, which is to be expected and I am so proud of how resilient they are. Hanna is planning on going back to Iowa with us, graduating, and finding her own niche in the world. We are excited to support her as she begins to transition into a life a bit separate from us. What a privilege it has been to share this last year with her traveling and spending all this time.
Lexi and Maia are still full time online students, and I am so thankful for the way our school district handled this year of craziness. We are planning to enroll in online schooling with them next year, and spend next year traveling in Florida some more. It is our hope to get a volunteer gig around the springs area or along the gulf side beaches, so wish us luck.
Johnny, Ciara, and the Twins ended up transferring to homeschooling again with the dual enrollment option. We absolutely love our special needs support teachers at their brick and mortar school, so they meet weekly via zoom with the support staff to help me nail new techniques and problem solve anything the kids are not understanding with us. It is the best of both worlds!
Covid really shook us up, but it has allowed us to really look at what works for our family and build on our strengths. 2020 had a lot of wins in it for us.
We hope you have been able to find the silver lining in all this, and feel free to drop us line.
